The Artist

Welcome to my official website!.  My name is Laura Banks, and I am the artist and chief bottle washer at Ghost Lake Studio.

I live with my husband Walter and two Schnauzers named Samson and Delilah on the Bruce Peninsula.  My studio is only steps from beautiful Gillies Lake and I can watch the goings on thru my Studio windows.

It has been said that my talent surfaced at a young age when I won a Toronto art contest in finger-painting at the age of eight.  WOW did I ever think I was something special.....!

I did continue to dabble in various art techniques during my life but unfortunately I couldn't devote the time serious art deserves. I was able to study with Jenkins Art in Sedona, Arizona and after that several years with Master Artist Jerry Yarnell at The Yarnell School of Fine Art in Skiatook, Oklahoma.

Finally retiring from a business career, I now devote  most of my time to fine art techniques.  Originally successful with landscape paintings, my passion for nature, birds and animals is certainly evident in my work today.

I have been volunteering for youth painting at the Meeting Place in Tobermory and have lead several adult Painting Parties.  Please see the  Painting Parties section of this site for further information.

I hope you enjoy my website galleries and if you want to learn more about my art or just want to ask me something, send me an email

Thank you for your time and any comments you choose to make.  Go to the next page The Studio
